Mail Art

Mail Art is the activity of expressing and conveying something using snail mail.  A Fluxus artist, Ray Johnson, in New York started this activity in 1962.  Since then, artists worldwide have joined and formulated the network.  Anybody can take part in the network and is free to leave.  Works the participants sent is copyright free.

I got to know that  TOKITAMA Words is one of the Mail Art works when I came to know MrNAKAMURA Keiichi, a Mail Artist, in 2009.  He made an appeal of collaboration with TOKITAMA through the network and, why!  Works from all over the world!  I got beside myself with joy.  Mr. Nakamura and I made up our mind to collaborate to make a display corner entitled 「背中の向こうに見えるもの」(senaka no mukou ni mieru mono)”背中=the back,向こう=beyond,見える=see,もの=the thing” in the BankART exhibition.
As of July 24, 2011, 684 works from 32 countries, increasing every day
I feel really happy about having friends communicating through postcards throughout the world.  I discover interest and satisfaction each day being able to make a breakthrough, regardless whatever language we use.
